Our Mission
Gateway Church exists to love God, love people, & make disciples. In Matthew 22, Jesus was asked, “What is the greatest commandment in the law?” Jesus answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Finally, before ascending to heaven, Jesus left his disciples with this commission: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Through Loving God, Loving People, and Making Disciples we will live out the values that fulfill the law, prophets, and Great Commission.
Our church gatherings will strive to follow the blueprint set by the early church in the book of Acts. All the believers gather together in the temple. (Acts 5:12) Our church service will be aimed at connecting people with God through worship, prayer, and scripture. Our church will provide believers a place to serve through the gifts God has given them. We will strive for the unity and devotion described in Acts 2:42-47 and 4:32-34. God’s love and grace was displayed through the Acts church. Our hope is each person who attends Gateway Church will experience God not only through the service but also through the body of Christ.
Following the example of Jesus, we fulfill the commission of making disciples primarily through life groups. Jesus preached and ministered to thousands, but devoted his life to a small group of men. He shared his life, equipped them for ministry, and trained them to make disciples. Jesus’ disciples continued this mission after his ascension. We will follow this reproducible process of making disciples. Through life groups, we will connect people to God, share our lives, equip the body to minister, and train them to make disciples who make disciples. Additionally, we will empower the members of Gateway Church to live as missionaries in every area of their lives. We will work to love our community. Our hope is that, regardless of someone’s past experience with church, it will be undeniable that we are marked by love!
